From South to North

I was born and raised in sunny South Africa, but nowadays I call the scenic (and much colder) landscapes of Norway my home.

3 Facts about me

I like to know I’m part of something bigger: helping people and making a difference.

I probably would have been a zoologist or wildlife conservationist in another life.

I love working in the garden, forest walks, and one day I’ll live on a small farm and take up drawing again.

Explorations

I grew up in various small towns across South Africa and my childhood was filled with adventures and discoveries - catching bugs with a flashlight in the garden, towing pet frogs along in a wooden play wagon and exploring the grassy hills behind our house.

Creative Beginnings

My interest in design began early on, flipping through my mom's glossy interior design magazines laying around at home. I decided to study Interior Decorating and Design.

I enjoyed the challenge of balancing beauty with practical and technical constraints.

Into Photography

Life has a funny way of introducing us to new paths. While working as an interior decorator, I picked up photography as another creative outlet. My passion for photography soon led me to leave my job (oh, to be young and carefree!) and become a full-time photographer.

My photography took me on many adventures all across South Africa and other countries. I met many wonderful people along the way, some of whom are still friends today. I also learnt to build my own website, learned SEO, and had to juggle all kinds of tasks that go far beyond the camera lens.

The UX Chapter

After working for more than 12 years as a photographer, I needed a new challenge. I discovered UX design and took up a full-time UX course while caring for a newborn and a toddler at home during the Covid pandemic.

It was not easy. But some challenges are just too good to pass up. With a supportive husband by my side, we made it through.

Bringing it all together

I found that I could bring many skills from my past work experiences into UX design, such as problem-solving, visualisation, communication, collaboration, attention to detail, project management, and technical skills.

As a UX Designer, I can use my skills to make a positive difference, and this is my mission.
